Pegboard can be extremely handy for keeping items organized around the house. Whether you are using it in the house, basement or garage, peg board will allow you to keep items easily accessible and yet perfectly organized.

Pegboard in the Basement, Workshop or Garage

Pegboard is a classic when it comes to organizing tools and other items that are commonly used in the workshop or garage. One great location for pegboard is on the wall behind a workbench, which will keep tools in a handy location to grab, use and then immediately put back. You might also want to devote an entire wall to pegboard, especially if you have a lot of small items or tools that you need to keep organized. As opposed to putting tools in cabinets and drawers, hanging them on a pegboard will keep them in direct sight, reducing the amount of time you will need to find a tool.

There are a multitude of pegboard hooks and hangers available, including shelves and bins that you can attach directly to the pegboard. When setting up a pegboard storage system in your workshop or garage, take some time to assess the types of items you need to organize, and then purchase hooks and hangers that will work best for you. This will help you customize your work space. Once you have your tools arranged on the pegboard, use a black permanent marker to draw an outline around each one. Not only will this make it easy to stay organized, but it will also make it visually obvious when one of your tools is missing.

Pegboard in the Kitchen

Pegboard can also be very useful in the kitchen for small kitchen utensils. Hang a piece of pegboard as a backsplash behind a countertop, or mount a piece to the side of a cabinet. Paint the pegboard in a color that coordinates with your kitchen for a prettier appearance, and choose colorful plastic pegboard hooks, or other types of pegboard accessories that will work well with your kitchen utensils. You will find that it is much more convenient to grab a utensil from the pegboard while you are cooking than to rummage through a drawer. Pegboard also adds an interesting look to the kitchen. If you are artistic, you could even paint a design or a mural on the pegboard surface turning it into a custom work of contemporary art wall.

Pegboard in the Hobby Room

If you create your own wall metal art from recycled metal or enjoy any hobby that tends to make a mess, pegboard might be the answer to keeping your hobby room more organized. In addition to the usual cabinets and shelves, try adding a piece of pegboard to one wall of your hobby room. Because of the wide variety of hooks, shelves and bins that are designed to be used with pegboard, you'll find it simple to customize your pegboard storage area to the exact needs of your hobby.

With all pegboard, if there are small children in the house, keep the pegboard hooks high, or use plastic hooks with rounded ends for safety.
