Comfortable Seating for the Media Room
67
Having a media room for entertaining or simple family enjoyment is an awesome bonus in any home. There are hundreds of seating options available, but the point of a media room is to be comfortable to enjoy the media itself, so finding something that works is essential. Comfortable seating for the media room depends on the primary media components being featured, so here are some examples.
Theater-style seating. This does not necessarily mean the flip-down seats that we all knew as kids, with cup holders on each armrest. These days, you can choose plush armchairs that are comfortable, and still include a cup holder or side table for keeping a drink or snack handy. Price can be the trickiest part of this choice, since they are often more expensive than other types of seating. Theater-style seating may not be easy to find in some areas. If delivery is not included, you may need to rent or borrow a truck.
Video chairs. Chairs without legs that rest on the floor are often referred to as gaming or video chairs, and are designed to be more comfortable for lounging on the floor and enjoying television, movies, or video games. Some feature built-in speakers that cooperate with the media room’s sound system, and others have attached cup holders and/or snack trays as a bonus. With the addition of optional massage features, this is a great choice for the younger crowd, especially teenagers.
Recliners. Much like theater-style seating, recliners allow you to lean back and appreciate the media components. They are comfortable and easy to find in most cities, and a good number of retailers that carry recliners also offer delivery service to your home. The cost is much lower than other types of seating, and these seats can be customized to handle more weight and/or height than traditional seating choices, like couches, with steel frames and similar options.
Sofas and couches. Finally, the most common option is a standard living room sofa or couch. Depending on how much space you have, a sectional sofa is a great option for hosting large gatherings, and offers very comfortable seating for anyone. Some sofas and couches offer reclining seats and cup holders that fold down for easy snack storage. Most rent-to-own retailers and traditional furniture stores have many different styles of sofas and couches to choose from, at good prices including delivery and set up.
Finding comfortable seating for the media room depends on how much space you have, what your budget offers, and furniture that is available in your area. If you own a truck, or can borrow one, you may be able to travel farther to look for an ideal seating arrangement, but it is normally better to stick to local retailers since delivery can be so costly for longer distances. Keep in mind that setting up couches, sofas, and large recliners or theater seats is a two-person project at minimum, and never try to lift these furniture pieces on your own.
Once the big pieces are in place don’t forget to add some style to your media room. From fun movie themes, to retro or modern looks, contemporary metal decor, tabletop accessories, collectibles, posters and metal art sculpture can be used to create a theme or style that makes your media room the entertainment destination of choice for family and friends.
